The majority of components that will be installed on each motherboard actually come into the factory on a roll of tape, allowing the robotic manufacturing system to pick up each component and position it correctly on the motherboard. It is the role of the human operators to ensure they have enough tapes on standby and that they swap them out in time to reduce the chance of a production line having to stop.

Entering the factory floor, the scale of it all makes it difficult not to feel at least a little overwhelmed. Spread across the room are countless production lines, seemingly go on forever, all servicing the creation of various motherboard models totalling in 1.3-million units per month. Breaking it down, that represents a completed motherboard every two seconds, without pause, all year long.

Once the main part of the building phase is done, the quality control testing stage begins and each board is taken off the line for electrical testing. Once passed, it's added back to the line for packaging and final boxing. There are multiple stages where checks are performed, either by machine or by eye, and there's even a dedicated repair stage to fix any little niggles.
