Answer

With the enhancing security on notebooks, all software attempting to utilize camera functionality (e.g., Microsoft Camera, Tobii Aware, etc.) will need the authorization approval from the user, especially when any third-party antivirus is installed such as Norton 360.

Make sure to give the authorization to the application which tries to access the notebook's camera before the camera can function properly.

The following example gives step-by-step guidance as an example to modify the application's authorization settings.

1. When launching the system camera app, a pop-up window from Norton 360 will show up and request for authorization, select "Allow Always" to give the access to the camera device.

*If the pop-up windows have been closed accidentally, launch the Norton app from the lower right notification area to manually disable the Safecam feature.

A. Open "Norton 360".

B. Click on "Open" on the right of Device Security.

C. Select "Settings".

D. Click on "SafeCam".

E. In the SafeCam settings, switch SafeCam feature to "Off."

F. Click "Apply" and then "Close."

*Note: If the access setting in Norton antivirus application is set to "Block," the camera will be disabled, any other application requiring camera access will be unable to use it.
