Answer
Windows has several recovery features that allow users to roll back or restore the system when there are critical issues.
System Protection is one such feature where users can create restore points to be used at a later time.
However, there can be various reasons that may cause System Restore to fail, e.g. the system has been updated with a critical or big update, or the system has been upgraded through several updates and the previously created system restore point is too old to be used, etc.
Another possible cause is due to third-party anti-virus software, as shown below:
To prevent third-party anti-virus software from causing the error, please refer to the following steps before running the system restore:
1. Open Norton in the notifications area.
2. Click Settings.
3. Select Administrative Settings.
4. Next to the Norton Product Tamper protection, toggle the status indicator to turn it off.
5. Click Apply.
6. Run System Restore to recover the system.
7. After it is complete, enable Tamper Protection in Norton settings.
