Before starting, ensure the notebook meets all the display HDR requirements referring to [Product Information] Display HDR.
To enable display HDR on MSI laptops that have an HDR panel or when laptop connects to an external HDR-supported monitor or TV, follow the setup instructions in Part A; for the display HDR in video streaming or gaming, refer to Part B.
Part A. Enabling HDR on MSI Laptops
1. For MSI laptops with an HDR panel:
- Left-click on the Windows icon.
- Select Settings.
- Go to System > Display.
- Click on the "Use HDR" switch to enable disply HDR.
2. For MSI laptops connecting to an external HDR-supported monitor:
- Keep the AC power connected to your laptop while enabling HDR.
(*Note: Enabling HDR on battery power significantly reduces battery life.) - Left-click on the Windows icon.
- Select Settings.
- Go to System > Display.
- Switch the display mode to "Extend." or "Second screen only"
- If your laptop is connected to multiple external monitors, select the HDR-supported monitor under "Select and rearrange displays."
- Click on the "Use HDR" switch to enable disply HDR.
Part B. Video Steaming or Gaming with HDR enable
1. Netflix Video Steaming with HDR enable
To use Netflix HDR Video Playback Setup
a. Meet the Netflix requrements:
1. Discrete NVIDIA GPU should be GTX 10 Series with at least 3GB of video RAM.
2. Premium Netflix membership plan. (Refer here to check)
3. A steady internet connection speed of 15 megabits per second or higher. (Run the Netflix internet speed test to confirm)
b. How to Enable Netflix HDR streaming:
1. Run the Microsoft Edge browser and visit Netflex site or download the Netflix app for Windows from Microsoft Store.
2. Open the Netflex app/site.
3. Enter the Settings tab to set the streaming quality to High ( Netflex app only)
4. Select videos which supports HDR quality and enjoy the HDR video.
2. Gaming with HDR enable:
- Note: Make sure that the selected game supports HDR.
- Follow steps in Part A to enable DisplayHDR in Windows.
- Launch the game (here we have Cyberpunk 2077 as an example).
- Enter the game settings > VIDEO > click on HDR Mode to enable HDR in game.
