[How To] Set Up Windows Hello
Answer
Windows Hello allows system users to access Windows devices quicker, easier, and more securely with a PIN, facial recognition, or fingerprint.
Set a PIN as part of setting up fingerprint or facial recognition sign-in, and choose to sign in with either PIN or the biometrics devices (IR camera or fingerprint reader).
*NOTE: Microsoft user account password is different from the PIN set with biometric devices, the PIN can only be used on the specific Windows device while the Microsoft account password can be used across all Windows devices which logged in with the same Microsoft account.
This guide shows the steps for setting up Windows Hello, facial recognition, and fingerprint reader on MSI Notebook that is bundled with biometrics devices (IR camera or fingerprint reader).
Initial Password Setup
To enable Windows Hello, a user account password, and PIN is mandatory.
1. For user account password setup, go to Windows Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
(Skip to step 3 if your account already has a password)
2. Click “Password” and select “Add”. Follow the on-screen instructions to create a password for the laptop.
3. Set up Windows Hello PIN, click “ Pin” and click “Set up".

Biometrics Devices (Windows Hello) Setup
Windows Hello supports PIN, facial and fingerprint recognition.
For facial recognition, a specific camera device (IR camera) is required in order to support facial recognition. If the message “We couldn’t find a camera compatible with Window Hello” shows up during the set-up, make sure that the notebook supports the IR camera and has been enabled properly.
For fingerprint recognition, a fingerprint reader is a must, make sure that the fingerprint driver is installed, or visit the MSI product download page to find the needed driver.
