Looking for hiccup-free gaming fun on 3D games, like Battlefield 3, with high resolution DriectX11 at an average of 35+ frames per second? Do you know how to tweak settings to maximize enjoyment of high resolution games? Let MSI tell you how it optimized settings on the GT783 and GT685, enabling these 2 notebooks to score more than P3500 on 3D Mark 11 to break the laptop computer performance record for a single graphics card.
Ultimate hardware for ultimate gaming
Look under the hood of the MSI GT783 and GT685 gaming laptops and you'll find the world's most advanced discrete graphics card—NVIDIA GeForce GTX580M, the powerful Intel Core i7-2670QM quad core processor, and RAID 0 with double high speed storage capacity. This winning combination offers the serious gamer serious performance and is why these two NBs exceeded P16,000 points on 3D Mark Vantage and broke the record for single graphic card, topping P3500 points on the 3D Mark 11 performance test.

MSI's GT783 and GT685 gaming laptops also come equipped with professional world-class 2.1 channel sound design from Denmark's Dynaudio, giving them crystal stereo stage sound within a 10-meter radius. The superior THX control program for cinema-grade wrap around sound lets you adjust the sound for the venue. The series employs high brightness, high clarity full HD resolution screens to maximize the gaming experience for all types of games.
GTX580M—cutting-edge graphics card designed for high load games like Battlefield 3
Battlefield 3, which caused quite the buzz when it hit the global market late last year, needs powerful machines to do it justice. Even some top-end desktops out there can't run it smoothly at top resolution, much less notebooks not designed for gaming.
The reason for this is that Ultra mode gives you high resolution with incredible detail, but it can also bog down graphics card and memory performance. In Ultra mode, even desktops with top-of-the-line single graphics cards average fewer than 40 frames per second (FPS). What's more, Battlefield 3 sometimes requires in excess of 1.5GB of memory when in Ultra mode. Fortunately, MSI's cutting-edge GT783 and GT685 laptop computers come with the GTX580M graphics card with 2GB of memory to run complex scenes at high resolution effortlessly.

The MSI GT783 and GT685 come with the GTX580M graphics card with 338 graphics pipeline (CUDA Cores) with 256-bit memory broadwidth and 2GB DDR5 high frequency memory. The GTX580M is indisputably the most powerful NB graphics card in the industry and is only found in MSI’s GT685 Series of 15.6-inch gaming notebooks. These machines, which tip the scales at less than 3.5 kilograms, boast structure and heat dissipation efficiency for the CPU and graphics card that are nothing short of extraordinary. The overall design of these laptops pushes the envelope.
Simple tweaks to Battlefield 3 graphics options increase FPS more than 1.5 fold
So, how do you adjust graphics settings for Battlefield 3 to get high definition detail without lugging down the computer? MSI suggests that when using the 1920x1080 Full HD resolution, first go to the Video menu and select Graphics Quality, then switch from Ultra to Custom mode. Switch the Antialiasing Deferred from 4xMSAA to Off and the Antialiasing Post from High to Off. These two options are used primarily to enhance antialiasing. Shutting them off doesn’t affect the level of detail in visual effects at all; rather, it improves graphics performance and reduces memory use. Next, switch the Anisotropic Filter, which handles remote clarity detail, to 4x.
After making these three adjustments, you will discover that the 23 to 32 FPS that you had before will immediately jump to 34 to 45 FPS. The realism of special effects and the level of crispness in details won't be affected in the slightest, but graphics fluidity will increase by at least 50%. MSI recommends that when you play offline as an individual, you can use these settings as they will allow you to enjoy optimal visual effects, while maintaining smooth gaming performance.

Lower resolution one notch for smoother online gaming
If you switch Video to High, you'll note that all of the resolution settings will change to High, the Antialiasing Deferred will automatically switch to Off, and the Antialiasing Post will change to High. The Anisotropic Filter will remain at the original 16x. When overall resolution is adjusted down by one level, FPS will increase from about 23 to approximately 38—an increase of 1.65 fold.

When playing fast-moving online games, you really won't notice any difference between the High and Ultra settings, but the High setting allows the GT783 and GT685 to run Battlefield 3 at a stable 37~49 FPS for smoother multiplayer gaming than the Ultra setting which is more suited to single player offline games.
The High setting is designed for Online gaming as it offers smoother play. This is because the occasional hiccup that could take place when using the Ultra setting might raise concerns that the game could get choppy or pause when a large number of players is playing, that players might not be able to keep up with teammates or that characters will react slowly in battle situations. This simple adjustment of the settings will make the GT783 and GT685 more than ideal for online battle.

The GTX580M graphics card can actually run in excess of 40 FPS using the Ultra setting in the vast majority of games and not even break a sweat. The above tweaks are only needed for a small number of resource-hungry 3D games, like Battlefield 3, CRYSIS 2, and The Witcher 2, to strike a balance between high resolution and smoothness of play. In the future, MSI will continue to provide information on resolution and detail settings for gaming notebooks whenever the need arises, so gamers can maximize their gaming experience on their high-performance MSI machines.
