Tom's Hardware Guide Admires MSI™ 648 Max Dominates the Roundup

Latest Update: Fri, 13 Dec 2002

MSI™ 648 Max defeats other 4 SiS648 based boards in 13 of 21 benchmarks of Tom's Hardware Guide, the leading hardware site of the world. Including the key index listed on the left, Tom's editor admires that it is mostly MSI™ that dominates in the benchmarks. Besides the unmatched performance, 648 Max also provide full set of features for various customers.

MSI™ struts its stuff and equips the 648 Max with Gigabit Ethernet and Bluetooth interface, with the attitude "the sooner the better."

The 648 Max scores respectably in matters of overclocking: it is the only one ...... that offers many possible FSB clock speeds (precisely to the MHz), as well as an increase in the processor voltage. The gates will be wide open for the power-hungry user to exploit the available hardware.

It is the only board among the test candidates to offer not only the usual gimmicks (AC97 sound, 6x USB 2.0, 6x PCI) but also a Bluetooth interface and a Gigabit Ethernet controller from Broadcom. Even the sound system was supplemented with several interfaces. So the adapter module has digital outputs (coaxial and optical) and outputs for the rear speakers, center speaker and a subwoofer - if six-channel sound is ever used.

We liked the package, which stands out with numerous adapters and a useful software list. Tom's editor also impressed by MSI™'s packaging by being impossible to overlook.

648Max (MS-6585)

The new SiS® 648 chipset supports 533MHz FSB, which increases bandwidth and improves overall system performance. The 648 Max motherboard supports USB 2.0 standard. USB 2.0 provides computer users the ability to connect to high performance peripherals in the least expensive way. With much higher bandwidth, USB 2.0 can reach data rates of up to 480Mbps, that's nearly 40 times faster than the current USB 1.1. The 648 Max conforms to ATX form factor and has a total of three DIMM slots, supporting up to 3.0GB DDR333 SDRAM. Expansion slots are available for 5 PCI, 1 CNR, and 1 AGP 4x Port.

MSI™ is always leading in bring computer users the latest technology. The 648 Max equips optional devices, such as 10/100Mbps Ethernet LAN controller and PC2PC™-Bluebooth bracket, which can used to communicate with mobile phone, DV camcorder, PDA and notebook that also support Bluebooth technology.

Looking for surround sound support for home entertainment? With the integrated 5.1 Channel audio chipset, users can enjoy playing games or watching DVD movies at home. The 648 Max is designed to maximize your connection to the digital world.
