MSI™ Proudly Launches New Intel® 850 Chipset Motherboard -- 850 Pro

Latest Update: Sat, 13 Jan 2001

MSI™ based on its time to market R&D capabilities, is launching a new motherboard based on Intel® 850 chipset and is specifically designed for the new Intel® Pentium® 4 processor, just a few days after Intel®'s demonstration of the new processor. MSI™'s 850 Pro motherboard is the symbol of perfection and represents the success of MSI™'s R&D team.

The Pentium® 4 processor is based on entirely new architecture design to the Pentium® III. MSI™'s 850 Pro motherboard is capable of fully delivering the high frequency and performance of the Pentium® 4 processor. The motherboard supports Rambus memory technology, and an ICH2 south bridge chip is applied to support Ultra DMA33/66/100, enhancing the overall system performance. The ICH2 chip also integrates networking controller, enabling users to explore the fantasies of the networking environment without installing additional cards. It also brings the features of HomePNA and 6-channel audio, plus 4 USB ports support, providing the most versatile expandability.

Different from all previous motherboard models, MSI™'s new 850 Pro applies the newest Socket 423 specification from Intel®. The new Socket 423 architecture is developed by Intel to further enhance functions and features on top of the previous Socket 370 architecture. Furthermore, based on Intel®'s QDR(Quad Data Rate) technology, the data transfer rate between the chipset and the processor can reach as high as 3.2GB/sec, avoiding data congestion in the processor, and accelerating the data communication between subsystems. The chipset and the memory bus apply Dual Channel technology, increasing data transfer rate to 3.2GB/sec as well, boosting the data processing speed!

MSI™'s new 850 Pro Socket 423 motherboard is based on ATX form factor, and applies Intel®'s 850 chipset, supporting Intel® Pentium®4 up to 1.4 to 1.5 GHz. The 850 Pro motherboard supplies 4 RIMM memory slots supporting up to 2GB system memory, and five PCI, one CNR, and one 4X AGP slots. The complete expandability satisfies most users demands.

To conclude, MSI™'s new 850 Pro motherboard, packed with plenty of features and advantages, is able to increase a great deal of system performance to a new level. It is undoubtedly that MSI™'s outstanding R&D team has again brought the newest technology and the best price-performance product to the market before everyone else.

The 850 Pro also brings the following features:

Metal Based Board
Because of heavy loading of heat sink and fan that are needed for Pentium 4, MSI™ has decided to use metal-based board for supporting purpose. By using the metal-based board, it could avoid any damage that caused from serious deformation of board and components. In addition of that, a soft plastic padding is added on the top of the metal-based board, which avoids contact between the motherboard and the computer case, reduce the chance of getting short circuit. The dimensions of this metal-based Pentium 4 motherboard is 173mm(L) x 220mm(W) x 10.6mm(H) and it is compatible with any old form of computer case. The level of anti-flammable for the metal-based board is 94VD.

Support Ultra ATA100
Support Ultra ATA100, accelerate data transfer speed and upgrade the computer empowerment.

A combination of 4 LED light signals to represent 16 different troubleshooting functions during boot up, so that the user can easily find the cause of any possible failure.

Integrated Audio
A 3D PCI bus audio controller is integrated, saving the cost of an additional audio card. It also supports AC'97 standard.

PC Alert™ III System Monitoring Software Tool
The intelligent tool monitors the temperature, voltage, system fan speed, hard drive status and memory status of the system. User is alerted at any abnormal situation, preventing the component damage due to abnormal usage.

STR (Suspend to RAM) Function
The STR function would save system configuration data on to the system memory when the system is set into suspend mode. The system memory is sustained with the minimum electrical power to avoid data loss. When the system is reset back to full operation mode, the original configuration status is restored in just a few seconds.

4 USB Ports
The 850 Pro motherboard is equipped with 4 USB ports providing the widest flexibility of connecting different peripheral devices.
