If pressing the power button results in the notebook failing to power on, displaying a black screen, or being unable to boot into the system, please follow the troubleshooting steps below. Before starting, ensure that your notebook is prepared as follows:
- Use the MSI original adapter provided to charge the notebook for at least thirty minutes.
- Please refer to [Notebook] How to update BIOS? to obtain the latest version of BIOS firmware updates from the official MSI product page.
- Remove all external devices, including but not limited to USB drives, external microphones, speakers, headphones, mice, external solid-state drives, etc.
- If your notebook has recently undergone hardware changes (e.g., memory, solid-state drive, etc.) prior to the issue, please restore the hardware configuration to its factory settings.
After confirming the above preparations, follow the instructions below based on the actual condition of your notebook to troubleshoot the problem.
Black screen display and power button LED light off (system unresponsive)
If pressing the power button results in a black screen display and the power button LED light turning off, please refer to [Notebook] How to Reset Embedded Controller (EC Reset) to perform an EC reset, and then check if the issue is resolved.
Screen displays black but power button LED light on (system powered)
1. Adjust the screen brightness to 100% using the icons in the bottom-right corner of the taskbar.
2. If there is no response, attempt connecting an external monitor via Mini DP/HDMI/Thunderbolt/USB Type-C DP port (using a supported cable). Then press the Windows key + P and select "PC screen only."
3. Open the bottom cover of the notebook and reinstall the memory & hard drive.
Note: This step involves opening the bottom cover of the computer. If you're unsure how to proceed, please contact the MSI service center to avoid potential damage due to human error.
Unable to enter Windows operating system after boot
1. Restore the BIOS settings
Refer to [Notebook] How to Restore BIOS Settings to reset BIOS settings and verify if the issue is resolved.
Note: If you previously adjusted RAID options (Intel IRST & Intel VMD Setting) on your notebook, make sure to select "Load Optimized Defaults" before manually adjusting relevant settings. Then select "Save & Exit" to reboot and apply the settings.
2. Update/Reflash BIOS
If the above methods do not resolve your issue, please refer to the guide [Notebook] How to update BIOS? to update your BIOS to the latest version. After updating the BIOS, check if the problem is resolved.
No screen display even after MSI brand logo appears
1. After the MSI brand logo appears, press "F3" to access the menu.
2. Select Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Settings → Restart.
3. Press the number key "5" or "F5" to enable Safe Mode with Networking.
