[Motherboard] How to Install/Update SSD onto Motherboard?

Solid State Drive (SSD) is abbreviated as SSD. Currently, the mainstream SSDs in the market are SATA and M.2. Please refer to this article for instructions. First, please check the SSD support specifications of the motherboard, and then understand how to install the SSD.

Check the SSD support specifications of the motherboard

• M.2 SSD

M.2 SSD can be divided into M.2 PCIe and M.2 SATA types. Currently, mainstream M.2 SSDs in the market use the PCIe interface, which offers higher bandwidth (speed) and lower data transfer latency compared to M.2 SATA interface SSDs.

• SATA SSD

Similar to traditional mechanical hard drives, it uses the SATA interface. Besides the data cable, an additional power cable needs to be connected. Its performance is equivalent to M.2 SATA, with the main difference being the interface compatibility.

Install SSD onto the motherboard

• M.2 SSD

1. Remove the M.2 heat sink (skip this step if not applicable).

2. Lock the M.2 screw according to the length of your M.2 SSD device.

Note: If your motherboard's M.2 slot supports only one length, do not attempt to lift the M.2 screw.

3. Insert the M.2 SSD into the M.2 slot at a 30-degree angle.

4. Lock the M.2 SSD screw.

5. Reinstall the M.2 heat sink to complete the installation.

• SATA 3.0 SSD

1. Locate the motherboard's SATA interface and insert the SATA data cable.

2. Connect the other end of the SATA data cable to the SATA SSD (it is recommended to use a right-angle connector on the SSD side to avoid cable bending).

3. Connect the SATA power cable from the power supply to the SATA SSD.
