The battery life of a notebook computer can vary depending on the user scenario. If you feel that the battery life is shorter than expected or doesn't match the specifications, please first check the user scenario and try the following troubleshooting steps:
- Optimize Battery Usage Settings
- Update BIOS
- Check Battery Health Status
- Battery Calibration
- Abnormal Battery Behaviors
Optimize Battery Usage Settings
The battery endurance performance provided by MSI may be different from the actual situation based on the usage environment and user habits.
The following are some solutions that can help increase battery life:
1. Adjust system settings.
- Reduce screen brightness using computer shortcuts or system settings.
- Turn off keyboard backlight.
- Disconnect unnecessary external devices when not in use.
- Turn off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, location services, etc., in the notification center when not in use.
2. Adjust power-saving mode settings:
- Open MSI Center → Features → User Scenario → Super Battery.
- Right-click the battery icon and open "Power & battery settings."
Adjust power mode to "Balanced" or "Best power efficiency."
Adjust the battery level for automatic power-saving mode activation based on your needs (default is 20%).
Turn on "Lower screen brightness when using battery saver."
Update BIOS
Please refer to [Notebook] How to update BIOS? to ensure that your BIOS is updated to the latest version. Then check if the battery-related issues are resolved. If the problem persists, continue with the troubleshooting steps below.
Check Battery Health Status
When the battery life shortens and maximum capacity decreases, battery calibration may improve the situation.
1. Battery wear rate calculation
For notebook computers with MSI Center pre-installed, please open MSI Center to confirm the battery status.
Open MSI Center, click "Features" → "System Diagnosis."
The software will automatically detect battery health status. If the status suggests "Recommend Replacement" or "Strongly Recommend Replacement," consider battery calibration or contact MSI customer service.
For MSI Notebooks without MSI Center pre-installed, obtain the battery report and calculate the battery wear level to check the health status of the battery.
1. Press "Windows key + X" and select "Windows PowerShell (Admin) ."
2. In the Windows Power Shell dialog box, enter “powercfg /batteryreport” and press the “Enter key” to get the battery report.
3. After the battery report is generated, please follow the instructions in the dialog box and go to the specified folder to open the battery report.
(The path in the figure is C:\Windows\system32\battery-report.html.)
4. Locate the battery report in the specified folder and open it with the browser.
5. Calculating battery wear level
Wear Rate = (Design Capacity - Full Charge Capacity) / Design Capacity * 100%; Example: (51368 - 49304) / 51368 * 100% = 4%
Note:
1. If the wear rate exceeds 50%, perform battery calibration is suggested.
2. If the battery capacity is abnormally low or high, please perform 2 or 3 rounds of battery calibration to reset the battery capacity IC.
Battery Calibration
Please refer to [How To] Perform Battery Calibration.
1. Locate the Battery Calibration option in MSI software installed on your notebook.
2. After locating the Battery Calibration option, click “Start” to start battery calibration.
3. The battery is in the charging process.
4. After battery charging is completed, the discharge calibration process will be performed automatically.
5. After charge and discharge calibration is completed, a prompt saying Calibration Completed will appear, and the prompt recommends performing calibration again in 3 months. If the battery wear level has reached 50% after battery wear calculation, the Battery Calibration program needs to be executed 2~3 times.
If you have performed 2-3 rounds of battery calibration but the battery health status still suggests replacement or there is no improvement in wear rate, it indicates potential battery aging or other issues. Please contact the MSI customer service center for further assistance.
Abnormal Battery Behavior
When the notebook battery has the following abnormal behaviors, please contact the MSI customer service for further assistance.
- Battery status light continuously flashing.
- Severe battery wear (problems persist after repair).
- Battery swelling.
