If your computer camera won't turn on or cannot be used, please refer to the following methods to resolve the issue.
- Enable the Camera Using the Shortcut Key
- Allow Applications to Access the Camera
- Check Antivirus Software
- Reinstall the Camera Device
- Update BIOS
- Perform System Restore
Enable the Camera Using the Shortcut Key
After the computer starts up and enters the system desktop, press the "FN key" and "F6 key" or "FN key" and "F4 key" simultaneously to turn on the camera, as shown in the example below.
Note: The method to open the camera with hotkeys may vary by model, so please refer to the icons on the keyboard or the user manual to turn on the camera.
When the camera is opened via hotkeys, a camera icon will appear on the desktop, as shown below.
Certain MSI notebook models support a physical camera switch, so please check if your model has this switch and turn it on to confirm if the camera can work normally.
Allow Applications to Access the Camera
If applications cannot use the camera, it may be because they do not have permission to access the computer camera. Follow the steps below to grant access permissions to applications:
1. Click "Windows Logo" → "Settings".
2. Click "Privacy & security."
3. Click "Camera," then turn on "Camera access."
4. To set individual software to use the camera, turn on "Let apps access your camera."
After enabling software access, scroll down the page to find the applications that have requested access to the camera.
Check Antivirus Software
With the enhanced security of laptops, all software attempting to use the camera function (such as Microsoft Camera, Tobii Aware, etc.) needs user approval, especially when third-party antivirus software (e.g., Norton 360) is installed. Please refer to [Product Information] Camera Authorization Setup to enable camera access in Norton.
Reinstall the Camera Device
If the camera device shows a yellow exclamation mark in the Device Manager and cannot function properly, please follow the steps below.
Uninstall the camera device in the Device Manager, then click to rescan devices.
1. Right-click on "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" and choose "Uninstall device."
2. Select "Action" and then choose "Scan for hardware changes."
Update BIOS
If the above methods do not resolve your issue, please refer to [Notebook] How to update BIOS? to update your BIOS to the latest version. After updating the BIOS, check if the problem is resolved.
Perform System Restore
If the problem still persists, please refer to [Notebook] How to restore the default factory system through F3 Recovery? to perform a system restore to its factory settings.
