Is your liquid cooler ready for the next generation of technology?

Case & Components

LGA 1700 Installation for MSI's MEG and MPG Liquid Coolers

The MEG CORELIQUID S Series and MPG CORELIQUID K Series can easily support Intel's 12th Gen CPUs thanks to the LGA 1700 bracket. Over here, we have an installation guide of the LGA 1700 bracket that applies to both liquid cooler series mentioned above.

LGA 1700 Installation for MSI's MAG Liquid Coolers

The latest Intel 12th Gen CPUs are more powerful than ever, but they are also becoming hotter due to the performance increase. This is why how you choose a liquid cooler for your build has never been this important. There is also a new LGA 1700 bracket. In this blog post, we will demonstrate the process involved in installing the LGA 1700 socket for Intel’s 12th Gen CPUs. This demonstration is applicable to all of MSI’s MAG liquid coolers including:

This is a list of all the items that we used for this demonstration

This is a list of all the items that we used for this demonstration:
1. MAG CORELIQUID P360 Liquid Cooler.
2. Screw Driver
3. MAG Z690 TOMAHAWK WIFI DDR4
4. LGA 1700 Back Plate
5. Standoff Screws
6. Water Block Screws

Install the Bracket On to the Water Block Head

Install the Bracket On to the Water Block Head
This is the first step of the process. Simply slide the bracket onto the water block and you’re pretty much ready to go.

Install the LGA 1700 Back Plate On to the Motherboard

Now, what you should do is install the LGA 1700 back plate. Place it on the back of a compatible motherboard.

Install the Four Standoff Screws

Install the Four Standoff Screws
To stabilize the LGA 1700 back plate, flip the motherboard back to the front and install the four standoff screws. This will ensure that you can properly install the water blockhead later on.

Apply the Thermal Paste On to the CPU

Apply the Thermal Paste On to the CPU
Before you install the water blockhead, make sure to apply the thermal paste onto the CPU first. There are many ways for you to apply the thermal paste on the CPU. With upgrades and design changes made to Intel’s 12th Gen CPUs, we believe that it’s best for you to apply the thermal paste on a wider scale to ensure the best thermal performance for your cooler as demonstrated in the photo above.

Install the Water Block Head

Now, it’s time to finally install the water blockhead.

Install the Water Block Head
Please install the screws in the indicated order to make sure that the water block is installed correctly. Installing the water block correctly ensures that the thermal paste will spread out properly on the cold plate for the best thermal performance.

Indication of Thermal Paste Spread

Indication of Thermal Paste Spread
For the sake of this demonstration, we took off the water block to see how the thermal paste is doing. We found out that MSI’s MAG liquid coolers enjoy a good thermal paste spread and are fully capable of matching the performance of Intel’s 12th Gen CPUs. The overall positive thermal paste spread is thanks to the latest LGA 1700 bracket.
