With the advancement of display technology, the functions of displays tend to be diversified. Among them, Picture-by-Picture is a display mode that display images from different signal sources side by side on one monitor panel; letting users to watch multiple videos on one monitor.
In order to have a monitor displaying video signal sent by the source device and achieve Picture-by-Picture, users will either have to connect two output sources into the two input ports on the monitor, or connect two input ports into the monitor from a single output source.
Configure Split Windows in Gaming OSD
The OSD menu is the physical button on the monitor. The split windows function can switch multiple windows on one monitor. If the users have two or more desktop computers, they can have two different display with different input sources on one monitor. The split windows interface is mainly divided into PIP and PBP.
- PBP (Picture by Picture) allows multiple windows to show in designated area and proportion on the screen simultaneously.
- PIP (Picture in Picture) allows windows to be shown on top of another windows.
The original intention of PBP/PIP function is designed to allow different devices to be displayed on one monitor (for example, we can connect both the computer and PS4 to the same monitor that supports PBP/PIP function, and have both displayed on the same screen). However, with the advancement of the technology, mainstream graphics card provide multiple output ports which supports multi-screen display. Therefore we can use a graphics card to send multiple output signal to one monitor and achieve PBP/PIP display (in fact, we are utilizing the PBP/PIP function to take it as multiple monitor).
